A Look Back at the 2026 AGM: Let’s Shape the Future of TUO Together

News - Intro image
Last Thursday evening, June 11, Trait d’Union Outaouais held its Annual General Meeting, a key event in the democratic life of our organization.

We would first like to warmly thank all the members, employees, and valued partners who took part in this evening. Your presence and commitment are a testament to the strength of our community.

This Annual General Meeting provided an opportunity to look back on a significant year for TUO.

We took time to highlight the achievements we are collectively proud of, while also openly sharing the challenges that lie ahead, particularly with respect to funding. Members can consult the full Annual Report here.

The evening also provided an opportunity to recognize the exceptional work of our team.

In particular, we celebrated the contributions of employees who completed their first year with us, as well as the inspiring journey of Véronique, who is celebrating 20 years of dedication to TUO. Her outstanding contribution deserves our deepest gratitude.

Community Life and Board of Directors

From a governance perspective, the AGM marked several changes within the Board of Directors.

We were pleased to welcome a new board member, René, and to confirm the renewal of Bintou's term.
We would also like to sincerely thank Véronique, Catherine, and Anna for their commitment over the past year. Their contributions have been invaluable to the development of TUO.

In this spirit, we are currently seeking new individuals to join the Board of Directors.

Two positions are available: one reserved for a member of the clientele and one mixed position, which may be filled by someone from either the clientele or the broader community.

Members interested in becoming involved are invited to contact the Executive Director, Federico, to submit their candidacy or obtain additional information.

More than ever, TUO needs its members

Beyond the annual review, this AGM also marks an important step in implementing our strategic plan.

Over the coming months, key decisions will be made to strengthen and clarify our service offering. In this context, we need the active involvement of our members.

We are therefore launching a call for participation in three mixed advisory committees focusing on:

  • Respite services
  • “Autism-Friendly” program (ADA)
  • Adult services

These committees will aim to identify solutions to current challenges, better define what TUO can realistically and consistently offer, and formulate recommendations to the Board of Directors. Their work is expected to lead to clear directions by the end of fall 2026.

The Respite Committee will be a priority, as it will directly contribute to decisions that will need to be made for summer 2027.
We hope to begin this work quickly by holding one or two meetings before the summer.

Member participation is essential. Your perspectives, experiences, and needs will help shape services that truly reflect your reality.

A critical issue: funding

Finally, funding remains a central issue.

As presented at the AGM, TUO is facing a projected deficit this year, notably due to the development of its respite services, and these financial pressures are expected to continue.

To support our mission and ensure the sustainability of our services, we have launched a new initiative: Club TUO, open to both individuals and businesses.

We invite everyone to contribute to this collective effort by sharing Club TUO within their networks, talking about it with others, and encouraging participation. Every action matters and directly supports autistic individuals and families in our community.

More than ever, TUO needs its members and the broader community.

Together, through your commitment, we can continue to strengthen our organization and respond to needs in a fairer, more inclusive, and more sustainable way.

Together, let's shape the future of TUO.
