Services and Activities for School-Aged Autistic Youths

Services and activities for school-aged autistic youths* are for children and teens over 5 years old who have completed one year in school.
* Please note that some services are offered up to 21 years of age.

Trait d’Union Outaouais offers various group activities where autistic kids can learn while having fun. Activities are designed and facilitated by qualified personnel based on recognized educational models. Through these activities, school-aged autistic youths can:

  • Increase their capacity for communication

  • Develop social skills

  • Increase motor skills

  • Improve autonomy

  • Enjoy outings within the community

  • Socialize with other kids

  • Have fun with friends.

Youths are grouped according to age, support level needed and interests. Activities are structured, but remain flexible in order to adapt to individual needs.

Educational Activities

One-day or short-series group workshops for all autistic school-aged youths, grouped by age, profile and needs. These short workshops are planned and facilitated by TUOI’s team or outside resources, and target specific short-term objectives.

Recreational Activities

Trait d’Union Outaouais offers two types of recreational activities for school-aged autistic youths:

  • Formule Club activities

Full-day or half-day outings in the community with members of our team. These activities encourage social integration in fun settings (swimming pool, movie theatre, museums, mini-golf, bowling, and more).

  • Adapted recreational activities

These adapted sports and culture activities are offered over a trimester. In each, participants can discover a new activity or skill. Classes are 30 to 90 minutes in duration, and facilitated by professionals in the field of the activity. A member of the TUOI team is on-site to support participation and facilitation, and help with the materials.

Activities vary from year to year depending on current partnerships with community recreational organizations. Some examples of past activities are: Muay Thai lessons, introduction to climbing or swimming, dance lessons and more.

Summer Camps

Our summer day camp is held Monday to Thursday, from early July to mid-August. Youths are grouped according to age, support level needed and interests. Activities are structured, but remain flexible in order to adapt to individual needs. Programming is similar to whet you may find in ordinary day camps and include community outings several times a week.
