… … ELSEWHERE IN QUÉBEC

April is Autism Awareness Month across Québec. The Québec Autism Federation (FQATED) has organized activities across the province. For more information, please visit their web-site at www.autisme.qc.ca

The Quebec Autism Federation (Fédération québecoise de l’autisme – FQA) has produced a new 21 month calendar which will be available at TUOI at a cost of $5.00

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorders, of which the best known is autism, are characterized by major differences in five areas of development:
  • social interaction
  • verbal and non-verbal communication
  • cognitive profile
  • sensory integration
  • withdrawn nature, with stereotypical and repetitive interests and behaviours

Within Autism Spectrum Disorders we also find, Asperger’s Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder – Not otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) and Rett’s Syndrome. Recent statistics state that ASD affects 70 of every 10 000 children. ASD is four times more common in boys than in girls.
